Cooperative Association Act, Section 11(a)

  1. Full Name of Association

Crawford Bay Commons Cooperative Association

  1. The purpose of Crawford Bay Commons Cooperative Association is to
    1. Meet members common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically controlled enterprise that incorporates the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for the land and all that depend on it.
    2. Provide access to land and land-based services to a community of members.
    3. Acquire and manage lands and properties in a creative and sustainable manner.
    4. Share land ownership and stewardship and facilitate a variety of land-based projects to benefit the members.
    5. Study, follow, demonstrate, promote, and expand upon the values of self-help, self-responsibility, direct democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity guided by the seven principles of cooperation established by the International Cooperative Alliance in 1995.

direct democracy” means that those people directly affected by decisions have the opportunity to participate in making and implementing those decisions;

consensus” means achieving unanimous agreement or agreement where no party opposes a motion (as defined in rule 124);

Membership Shares: unlimited number Par Value $50

Investment Shares: unlimited number Par Value $500

Classes of membership

A. Commons Steward – general membership for all Commons Council members. One vote per member.

B. Project Participant – active participation in projects approved and support by the Commons Council.

C. Residentfor permanent residents on residential lots in a strata subdivision of the Commons land.

D. Investor – for financial support of Commons projects.

The land for a proposed demonstration site is located at 16345 Cedar Road, Crawford Bay, BC.
